This learning programme is intended for all persons who need to manage and improve communication processes in a function. This Unit Standard is for learners who are already managers of functions or aspiring to become managers of functions. This Unit Standard meets the needs of the sector and of the society by providing competent function managers who by being able to competently manage the communication process in their function, thereby contributing to the effective management of the function. The learner successfully completing this Unit Standard will gain essential knowledge and practical skills required to communicate with individuals within the function and the entity, and strategic partners and stakeholders thus sustaining relationships.

  • This learning programme is outcomes-based which means we take the responsibility of learning away from the facilitator and place it in your hands.
  • Your learning will begin in the workshop where you will identify the skills and knowledge you require in order to meet the specific outcomes and assessment criteria contained in the unit standard.
  • In this learning programme, we will be covering the following learning outcomes:
  • Module 1: Establish Communication Processes to Promote Positive Relationships
  • Analyse the entity’s communication strategy in terms of its intended application and how it is effectively being applied
  • Develop communication processes to accommodate inter and intra-function communication so that all parties within the function are kept informed of aspects and developments relevant to them
  • Develop communication processes in relation to external stakeholders so as to ensure effective and efficient service
  • Delegate specific tasks within the communication process to ensure outward reach of the process
  • Manage communication processes to ensure that the communication strategy is achieving what was supposed to be achieved
  • Module 2: Evaluate the Effectiveness of the Communication Processes
  • Develop criteria for the review and evaluation of communication processes
  • Explain a feedback loop to show how the function communicates with its internal and external stakeholders
  • Measure the information obtained against the criteria developed to determine the effectiveness of the communication processes of the function
  • Assess the aspects of ethics and principles during the evaluation
  • Module 3: Recommend Improvements of the Communication Processes
  • Analyse the barriers to the communication processes of the function so that the process to address them is focused and efficient
  • Develop strategies to address each of the barriers identified and outlined
  • Address principles of communication to promote open and honest communication
  • During the workshop you will complete a number of class activities that will form part of your formative assessment. In this you have the opportunity to practice and explore your new skills in a safe environment. You should take the opportunity to gather as much information as you can to use during your workplace learning and self-study.
  • The workshop will be followed by summative assessment tasks to be completed through self-study in your workplace. In some cases you may be required to do research and complete the tasks in your own time.
